People choose the F8 Spider for the engine: the 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 makes 720 PS and 770 Nm, and the car reaches 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. It is rear-wheel drive, so in the rain the electronics and a gentle right foot matter more than power. The two-piece hard top folds in 14 seconds at up to 45 km/h, and with the roof up the cabin is almost as quiet as a coupe.

On Phuket it needs open roads: the coastal stretch from Surin to Kamala and the climbs towards Karon early in the morning. Patong and the Old Town have narrow streets and heavy traffic, so it is better to plan a route around them.

Two seats, and the front luggage compartment takes a weekend bag.
