The G 63 suits anyone who wants a large off-roader with power in reserve: the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 makes 585 PS and 850 Nm, and 0-100 km/h takes 4.5 seconds. You sit high with a good view out, and speed bumps, puddles after a downpour and steep villa driveways in the hills of Kamala and Nai Harn do not trouble it.

It seats five, and the side-hinged tailgate carries the spare wheel. In town, remember that it is almost two metres wide: space is tight in the Old Town lanes and near the beach in Patong.

The exhausts exit on both sides in front of the rear wheels, and you hear the V8 even with the windows closed.
