We leave Ao Po pier on a private speedboat. Phang Nga Bay is sheltered from the open sea, so the water is usually calm. The first stop is Koh Hong, where a paddler takes you by canoe through a sea cave into the lagoon inside the rock. Next is Khao Phing Kan, known as James Bond Island since the 1974 film. From the beach you can see Koh Tapu; boats have not been allowed near it since 1998.
Lunch is in Koh Panyee, a village built on stilts. There we switch to a longtail boat and follow the mangrove channels to Tham Lot, a cave tunnel the boat passes straight through. On the way back we stop for a swim.
The pace is easy and suits families with children. Bring swimwear, a hat, sunscreen without oxybenzone (such sunscreens are banned in Thai marine parks) and cash for small purchases.
